Workplace Discrimination:

There are state and federal laws regarding discrimination in the workplace. Discrimination can be in many forms, including hiring practices, promotions, and treatment of employees. Discrimination can take many forms, and you may have a claim if you were discriminated against, including the following types of discrimination:

  • Sexual harassment
  • Age discrimination
  • National origin or race discrimination
  • Religious discrimination
  • Gender or sex discrimination
  • Pregnancy discrimination
  • Handicap or disability discrimination

Certain federal laws prohibiting discrimination based on race, sex, national origin and religion requires one to first file a Charge of Discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) within 180 days of the alleged discriminatory act. After the EEOC has conducted an investigation to determine whether there is probable cause to believe the alleged acts of discrimination occurred, the agency will issue a Right to Suit letter. Once the Right to Suit letter is received an individual must file their claim in United States Federal District Court within 90 days. Failure to timely file within the 90 day period will result in the loss of ones ability to pursue their legal claim. As part of our evaluation we will assist you in preparing your Charge of Discrimination for filing with the EEOC. Contact the Grissom Law Office at (913) 484-6934 and we will happily assist you at no cost.
